This Teacher Speaks

I’ve been a teacher for 8 years and I’m writing my first blog. I’m the first to admit that i’m not an amazing writer, but I do have a passion for teaching and for teacher development. In particular I love applying the concepts of cognitive science to the classroom.

I chose the name because when i first started teaching I was told that I ‘Speak too much’ and when that when the teacher is talking the students aren’t learning. I never really did get the hang of that little tip and now I am getting more an more used to using Direct instruction in the classroom and speak probably the same amount, but in a much more focused way.

At the moment I am looking to produce a whole bunch of resources and share them here for free. I also want to produce some ‘how to … ‘ guides to various aspects of my teaching and some book reviews of some of the fantastic education books out there.
